Sports Psychology
Sport Psychology is the study of the mental thought processes a person uses before, during and after participating in their chosen sport. It particularly focuses on how a person can improve or change their thinking to produce better and more consistent results by co-ordinating their mental processes with the body's technical movements.
I am a former British and English international golfer and current member of BASES (The British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences) I combine my past experience and understanding of what it is like to be under pressure to perform, together with the modern teachings of sport psychology and the latest research, to help sports people of all ages and standards with their sporting performance.
Below are just a few of the things that we could work on together..
A general all round improvement
To improve a specific part of your game (such as putting in golf)
Mental preparation
To Boost:
Motivation
Confidence
Focus/concentration
Positive self talk
Self Belief - if you know you can do it, the game is half won!
To address/release:
Anger
Controlling 'nerves'
A negative experience, perhaps
'Choking'
Burn out
Crowd heckling
Referee/umpire bad call etc.
You have become 'stuck', which might include:
Attaining a good standard, then experience a drop in performance lasting too long
You have all the attributes you need to take your game to the next level, yet struggle to succeed.
For many years most sports people focused almost entirely on the technical and physical sides of their game - very few understood the importance of learning about and improving their 'inner mind thoughts'. Things are now very different.
The success of Team GB at the Beijing Olympics has highlighted the vital input and contributions made by all the different trainers - including psychology. Also at this year's British Open Golf Championship - the winner - golfer
Padraig
Harrington, was televised on the practice ground with his technical coach AND Mind coach - something which would have been unthinkable years ago.
Even club and local players, who might regard their sport as purely recreational - still seek ways to improve. Learning effective mental skills could provide the important ingredient to taking your game 'to the next level'.
This could be just the right time to discover just how you can improve your sporting performance. Please contact me for further details. |
